08/06/07: Poster Perfection
Continuing an exciting Sandpoint tradition, Seasons at Sandpoint recently hosted the annual unveiling of the official poster for the 2007 Festival at Sandpoint. Earlier this year local artist Janene Grende was selected by previous Festival poster artists to create the much-anticipated artwork. Her colorful painting was revealed July 12 poolside at Seasons during the annual Poster Unveiling, which also served as the kickoff to the popular concert series. Seasons was open to the public for the event, with casual fare in our artful (and art-filled) setting.
The painting depicts an animated North Idaho scene - the lake, animals, music, dancing - in Grende's signature colorful style. Winning posters have become an integral element of the Festival. They're not only used to promote the event, but proceeds from their sales support the nonprofit Festival organization. The generous artists donate their original works, which are auctioned off at the end of the Festival. Last year's coveted poster broke a record at $7,250. Festival memorabilia sporting the winning image are sold throughout the season, with posters especially emerging as collectors' items.
